Yankee Stadium

Yankee StadiumThe current Yankee Stadium -- often referred to as "New Yankee Stadium" -- opened its doors for its first exhibition baseball game on April 3, 2009. It replaces the orginal Yankee Stadium, built in 1923. The new building was constructed across the street from its predecessor, in the Bronx, New York.

This new Yankee Stadium lists a standing-room capacity of 52,325. This is actually several-thousand fewer than the original stadium held. However, over 55 new luxury suites are included. The building facade was designed to heavily echo the original, and is largely constructed of limestone pieces, along with granite and concrete.

The home run wall measures 314 feet to right field, 318 feet to left field, and 408 feet to center. The outfield fence ranges in height from eight to eight-and-a-half feet, down from its approximate ten-foot height in the old Yankee Stadium. The field itself is grown from Kentucky bluegrass.

Between stadium gates 4 and 6 you can find the Great Hall, a seven-story tall atrium featuring shops along with large banners, depicting past and present Yankee players. Behind center field exists Monument Park, an area featuring plaques and memorials to the entire history of Yankee greats. Above Monument Park is the Mohegan Sun sports bar, where patrons can eat/drink before, during and after games. Also on the premeses are a Hard Rock Cafe, NYY Steak (a steakhouse restaurant), and 25 fixed concession stands along with 112 moveable ones.

The stadium features a high definition LED main video scoreboard, with dimensions 101 feet by 59 feet. Over 1,100 other, small-scale high definition monitors can be found throughout the concourses and suites.
